Seasons of Self-Care: The Season of Expansion
Share
Welcome back!
We've wrapped up spring with intention and now it is time to launch ourselves into a new season of care.
As the sun reaches its highest point and the days stretch long and golden, summer invites us to expand—to step outside, to reconnect, and to show up for ourselves in brighter, bolder ways. It’s a season of energy, celebration, and growth, but it also calls for balance.
In this edition of Seasons of Self-Care, we’re leaning into the warmth—both from the sun and from within.
What Summer Teaches Us About Self-Care
Nature is in full bloom. Everything around us is louder, more alive. That same energy lives inside us too. Summer reminds us:
- To bloom where we’re planted
- To rest in the shade when it gets too hot
- To celebrate small wins like wildflowers along the road
Self-care in summer doesn’t mean you have to be constantly “on.” It’s about taking a moment to be present and grateful for where you are.
Summer Self-Care Practices to Try
Here are a few seasonally-inspired self-care ideas to ground and energize you:
1. Sunrise Slow Starts
Wake up early to enjoy the quiet before the day heats up. Light stretching, journaling, or sitting outside with iced tea can set the tone. I get it! Life is busy and full, but this is one practice I am going to try this summer. I am a mom, wife, I have a career, and I run my lovely business. Personally, this will allow me to have some quiet moments before the chaos of the dat begins. (haha)
2. Joyful Movement
Swap rigid workouts for movement that brings you joy—like dancing, swimming, walking barefoot in grass, or doing yoga on your porch. Keeping your body in motion is simple and has huge benefits.
3. Seasonal Nourishment
Eat with the season: berries, watermelon, cucumber, and herbs that hydrate and nourish. Think: light, fresh, colorful. I found this amazing resource to help you select your seasonal fruits and veggies here.
4. Set Boundaries
Longer days can tempt us to overextend. Trust me, I know all about overextending on the house projects and when I think summer, I immediately max out my todo list and attempt to get it all done, but that is not healthy at all. Set a daily “sunset” boundary—that reminds you to wind down and shut off your brain, body and tech (if needed).
5. Play, Just Because
Plan something just for fun. No productivity attached. A picnic, spontaneous road trip, or art night with friends. Doing something nostalgic that reminds you of your childhood or warm memories works too. Just do things that are fun and that bring you joy. This is all pure self-care.
I hope this short and sweet blog helps you kick-start your summer of expansion.
Remember, Summer is more than a season—it’s a reminder that you are allowed to glow. So shine brightly, but soften often. Here's to your summer of loving yourself enough to make self-care a priority.
